Closed cooling water systems (CCW) and stator cooling water systems play a critical part in the maintenance of operational plant systems. This article reviews the primary chemistry programmes commonly used in preserving power plant CCW and stator cooling water systems with reference to case studies depicting challenges faced by powerplants with the chemistry and operations of their systems. The succeeding troubleshooting process and root cause investigations are highlighted and detailed.
